Thrusting Myself into Music & Writing

Album Reviews & Freelancing

This week has been filled with lots of writing! Unfortunately, not much writing has been done for my novel *cough* none *cough* but I haven’t forgotten about it. Simply, I have set it aside for now so that I’m not rushed and also… I’d like to purchase my own ISBN for my book instead of using Amazon’s free one, and I need to save the money for that. If you’ve never published a book, you probably don’t know how expensive ISBNs are, and the reason that Amazon gives you a free one is because they know that no retailer will purchase your book to sell in their shop. Other places see Amazon as competition and will not give them their money just to sell physical copies of your book.

I’d like to not be weighed down or held back by something so simple; I’m freelancing and self-publishing so that I can have total control over my writing, my published books, and what happens to all of it. Had I known Amazon had this kind of relationship with other retailers, I wouldn’t have published my first book without first having purchased my own ISBN.

I have gotten lots of writing done though. I have several articles written, and I have successfully published three articles on Medium this week, and I already have two prepped to schedule for next week. I completed my first album review on Witches by One-Eyed Doll, published this week, and I have also scheduled my next album review to be published on Wednesday.

Reading Recommendations

Cybercime Magazine and The Atlantic. I have been immersed in the world of non-fiction and future technology today, and both of these publications have sated my hunger for that.

I’d also like to recommend—

My Current Read

If He Had Been With Me by Laura Nowlin. Wow, I am absolutely impressed and sucked into this book. I knew a quarter of the way through that I wanted to read the second book. Granted, the second book isn’t a sequel; instead, it’s a retelling of the same story from the first book. I knew the ending to the first book before reading it, and honestly, it’s worth knowing, because it really allows me to see all the foreshadowing for what’s to come. I am rather excited to read the last chapter, or the last few chapters, of the second book, especially knowing what happens to the male main character.

Recent Finds Unrelated to Reading

Red Light Cameras and Lindy Vision (the band as the image for this week's blog) are both indie bands that I have grown to love! I am actually planning on interviewing both bands and submitting the articles for publication in a major magazine. I’ve already received my first rejections, and honestly, all it does is make e want to keep going. I already knew that rejections were going to happen, and I was prepared to face them, but I read an article recently on Medium that made me want to continue and pursue my dreams even more. It talked about how rejections are only there to make you try harder, and rejections aren’t a bad thing. Editors remember your name, especially when you submit proposals to them multiple times. The article also gave advice on how to send proposals, making sure to do your research of editor’s names for the introduction, and sending photos along with the article if available, as sometimes an article is pushed back to another issue because the editors are simply trying to find photos to go with your article.

Recent TV Shows & Movies

My spouse and I have been talking about seeing the movie Abigail for a while now, and tonight, he turned it on. I did not expect to be so absorbed in the movie. I was able to write an article while watching most of the movie, but by the time I had finished, the movie had probably thirty minutes left, and I just sat there, staring at it, impressed by the storyline and everything that was happening! How impressive that was!
